STAFF Short History
Begun in 1998 by the Marianists, the skill training program at Deepahalli was run as a 1 year course with 4 boys training in carpentry. As interest and funding developed, the welding and tailoring units were created in 1999 and 2000, respectivly, to accomidate this need. As some boys referred to the STC were too young to begin training, in 2002, the STC began sending those boys to a local school. All trainees continued to participate in the nightly non-formal education classes, supplementing their training unit lessons. Over 9 years, the STC has successfully trained 300 boys.
