Often, young Indian women are kept in the home to look after the housework or younger siblings, stifiling their social and mental development. In the course of time, the program seeks to increase their economic
self-sufficiency and social empowerment, eventually leading to their dynamic participation in society.

With their exams finished, REDS conducted a graduation and farewell ceremony for its first class. After a welcome by miss Prema Mantesh, students were issued their certificated and marks cards by Sr. Antoinette Mary of Jesus, Superior General of the Little Sisters of the Poor, and were congratulated by their instructors and staff. Snacks and a cultural program of dancing and skits, performed by the girls, made for a joyful occasion. Many girls expressed their gratitude towards REDS for their one-year experience, conveying that because of the opportunity and training afforded them by REDS, they are now more confident in themselves, and able to work in the nearby garments district. To help them begin their work, REDS presented each girl with a set of tailoring tools.
